Stream Gigi Lamayne new album ‘Set in Stone’ featuring Busiswa, MusiholiQ, Makhadzi, Majorsteez, Big Zulu, Kid X, and more.
In her new album titled Set in Stone, Gigi Lamayne enlists Vugar Beats on production. While the project is still hip-hop leaning towards the trap side of life, the producer sprinkles a local flavor on the beats; most of the songs are given a South African sonic accent by the inclusion of amapiano’s log drum, a contraption that is being deployed by a large number of musicians from all different genres across the continent.
But, even with this flirtation with the yanos, Gigi doesn’t compromise on the raps. She weaves in raps concerning spirituality in the single “Empini” alongside KZN rappers Big Zulu and Anzo who both tap into maskandi and their cultures in their music. On Mashonisa, she’s joined by Busiswa and Makhadzi for a ranting session about ugesi, over a jiggy beat that is guaranteed to corrupt the listener, stripping them off their morales.
She’s confident as ever; she raps, “No balls, I’m Mzansi’s Jigga” on “Good Good” alongside Don Calya with who she goes back and forth over a minimal trap instrumental.

“Fabiani” is a catchy song that taps into kwaito both sonically and in the references Gigi, Alfa Kat, and Naethebae make; you’ll pick up interpolations from Mzekezeke, TKZee, and other kwaito legends.
Set in Stone is Gigi’s second album, a follow-up to 2016’s iGenesis. Gigi has released several mixtapes and EPs in between those projects and before.
